SLP Resources to venture into China, US

KUALA LUMPUR: Plastic packaging manufacturer SLP Resources Bhd hopes to venture into China and the United States by year-end as well as expand its product range, thanks to the increasing demand for plastics packaging products.

SLP Resources would invest RM6mil in machinery to introduce a new product line to manufacture "special packaging films" for electronics applications to China by the third or last quarter of this year, managing director Khaw Khoon Tee told reporters after the prospectus launch on Wednesday. He did not disclose any details.

In addition, SLP Resources would be partnering its American as well as a Taiwanese partner to supply healthcare and medical devices packaging films to the United States, said Khaw.

"We hope to increase our healthcare and industrial sector's contribution to revenue from 30% to 40%," he said, noting that its current dominant sector is retail and commercial, which contribute to 60% of the group's revenue.

Currently, the ratio of revenue contribution for the local and export market is 50:50, he said, noting that small-medium enterprises contributed to 80% of its local market.

To date, the group had invested a total of RM2mil in research and development (R&D) and would allocate 1% of turnover annually to R&D, as part of product line's expansion plans.
